…The problem is… you can’t have a civil discussion with people when you and those who look similar to you are killed or locked away for years because of stereotypes only slightly less damaging to society as a whole than fucking blackface. Sketchy case after sketchy case has been dismissed, simply because the officer had a lighter shade of skin than the victim; and, as we all know, that clearly means the officer was in the right for shooting someone who was probably “just another thug.” If the system will not provide liberty and justice for all, as it so claims to, then Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream will never come true. Spoilers: despite the fact that his death outlawed racial segregation, that dream is still not a reality.

The minorities tried to be civil. The legislation and its enforcers forced their mouths shut as long as they could, and now they’re faced with a challenge of the status quo, a revolution that they cannot hope to stifle, much less quell. Martin Luther King, Jr. might not approve of the methods being used, but hopefully we can get the results his death should have brought about in the first place.
