A couple years ago I was a part of a cosplay documentary called “My Other Me: A Film About Cosplayers” which has since been released on some digital platforms Unfortunately someone is using this to try and take advantage of cosplayers.

 I was just told today by the director Josh Laner that there is someone impersonating him on Deviant Art to speak with female cosplayers about being in a new cosplay film and asking them to dress up for skype “interviews”.

He has been going by the username “LanerJosh” on both deviantart and skype and resides in Texas, while the director and all associated crew for the original film live in Vancouver BC. He is in no way associated with this cosplay documentary or their production company. Do NOT respond to any messages received from him, spread the message and keep yourself and your friends SAFE.

I dont personally use deviant art anymore so if you do PLEASE at least post his facebook post to your journal or send it to your friends using the website!

STAY SAFE OUT THERE GUYS. Don’t agree to skype with strangers!!

UPDATE!!! MAY 14 

It appears that the deviantart account “LanerJosh” has been taken down either by DA staff or by this man himself. However I still urge you to be VERY CAREFUL of anyone contacting cosplayers through deviantart (or any other site tbh) asking for skype “interviews”. 

There is a good chance he will try this scam again, either with Josh Laner’s name or some other ID. Be smart and take care of yourselves out there!
